Interviews
The Gathering Inn
The Gathering Inn always wants to help people. They treat people with kindness. Their goal is to get them into a home.
When researching the homeless community in Roseville, I chose to interview The Gathering Inn because it seemed welcoming. When I emailed them they were more than pleased to give me a tour and show me what they do.
The buildings were used for different things like shopping, a place to eat, there was a daycare, family room to spend time as a family, there was also a decorated therapy room. The building has it's own hospital room to see patients when doctors and staff volunteer their time. In the yard there was a garden that I really liked. People were just relaxing and it looked nice. Everyone was being nice to each other.
By the time we left, 5 cars had already stopped and dropped off donations. Their care closet was full. They appreciate all of the help that this community gives.
I walked away with learning that The Gathering Inn isn't just a shelter, they get people into homes. They want people to succeed. They keep helping people as they come back with different skills that they need to get jobs, get clean and find a home. They kept talking about the people that they helped, not themselves. They really care about our community.
When I asked what they needed most, they said
"To be kind to the homeless. To treat them as people". That is what they said was needed more than anything else they receive.
